Our favorite chillout place in Katipunan opens its doors to the thrill-seeking crowd of The Fort and Makati. And this time, Mag:net Café unveils a more tempting cuisine and a new lineup of entertainment at the Bonifacio High Street branch in Bonifacio Global City. It’s a brand new place where we can all escape from the stress at work.
The birthplace of the Mag:net Cafe concept and the ever-present playground of artistic energy is the vibrant Mag:net Café in Katipunan inviting and challenging the inhabitants of that university suburb and all points North. It has already made a significant impact on the Manila indie music and contemporary arts scene. The warm atmosphere of that friendly room upstairs in Katips continues to serve as a melting pot of ideas contributed by artists, musicians, poets and performers such as Cynthia Alexander, Mishka Adams, Drip, the very best of the fantastically creative young university musicians, and the underground comedy hit SPIT (Silly People’s Improvised Theater). From this exciting creative engine of art, Mag:net Cafe High Street is now bursting onto the scene to inspire and move the inhabitants of Makati and all points South.
Fusion of food and art Mag:net Café High Street still has that same artistic vibe. In fact, this new night spot stimulates all our senses. The modern interiors carefully laid out by Ralph Walker to provide the most inviting space while Rock Drilon, Mag:net’s Art Director decks the café with artworks that’ll surely get 2 thumbs-up from both diners and enthusiasts.
You’ll also fall for Mag:net’s best kept dining secrets. Food and beverage manager Chef Kathy Avecilla and Chef Booj Supe add a modern twist to our all-time favorite comfort food. You have to try Pugo with Longganisa and Green Grapes, the perfect appetizer with quail eggs sautéed in olive oil, Vigan longganisa and Habunado longganisa and topped with seedless grapes (This is actually a glorified version of a favorite breakfast combo of eggs and longganisa) To complete this combo is a melba toast. Another sure hit is the Mag:net Gambas, made of shrimps sautéed with bihod (fish eggs) and white wine, sprinkled with kesong puti. If you’re not a rice person, this will definitely be something to jumpstart your rice eating frenzy. The Appetizer Sample, on the other hand, answers your small indulgences. It’s made up of Gambas, Pork Basil Spring Roll, Pugo w/ Longganisa and Green Grapes and Grilled Liempo Salad.
And for the main course… Dive into Mag:net’s entrees like the Ginataang Lengua, which is ox tongue cooked in coconut milk and garlic. This original recipe is served with parsley rice. For chicken lovers, get the Sinampalukang Manok, a roulade of chicken cooked in tamarind sauce served with parsley rice. The Rib Eye Tapa and the Pesto Tinapa Pastas are best choices if you’re up for some noodles. To end an exquisite meal, you got to have the right dessert like the Chocolate Mousse drizzled with strawberry syrup and Kahlua-Fruitas Shortcake, which is orange chiffon cake in Kahlua icing topped with tropical fruits.
Fully loaded… While you’re at it, enjoy Mag:net’s trademark of entertainment. SPIT, for instance, is an improvised comedy show with both the jologs and intellectual humor that is simply clever. This gag, founded by comedian Gabe Mercado, definitely redefines Metro Manila’s stand-up scene. It’s a whole new entertainment that’ll surely get you hooked on Mag:net Café. Get ready to roll in laughter every Tuesday with SPIT Nights.
Music nights at Mag:net, courtesy of its musical director Quark Henares, are another set of events to watch out for. The café is the perfect spot for all music lovers. You get to appreciate great music from different genres. Mainstream and underground bands like Imago, Itchyworms, Indio I, Radioactive Sago Project and Up Dharma Down have performed at Mag:net’s stage. Watch out for some smashing events like Musical Fascist Night on Mondays where big names in the Music industry get to be a pseudo-dj for the night playing their choice of songs, Watch out for the hottest upcoming bands on The Verge every Wednesday, Chillout with Jazz and Bossa every Thursday, Spread the love and dance to the reggae beat every Friday, and to cap the fully loaded week is our Heavy Weights on all Saturdays featuring the biggest, most established groups in the music industry.
